The Egyptian government has officially ratified the new maximum working hours for shops, with opening set at 7am and closing at 10pm in winter and 11pm in summer, except for weekends.
On Thursdays, Fridays and national holidays, closing hours will be extended to 11pm in winter and midnight in summer, Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawy stated.
Restaurants and cafes will be allowed to open from 5am to 12 midnight in winter and to 1am in summer, while on Thursdays, Fridays and national holidays they will close at 1am during winter.
Take-away and delivery services for restaurants and cafes will be allowed to operate all day long regardless of season.
Workshops that lie in residential settlements will open at 8am and close at 6pm in the winter and 7pm in the summer, except for workshops that are located on roads and in gas stations.
Grocery stores, supermarkets, bakeries and pharmacies will be exempt from the decree, which will be enforced from December.
Under the new rules, the summer season lasts from the last Friday in April until the last Thursday in September.
